Executive Chef, Matt Donovan, along with his family and team of experts have transformed the small café they took over in 2008 into the much-loved Surf Club Restaurant and Bar, offering delicious meals, outstanding views and a very special venue for weddings, events and conferences.
These days Matt, head chef Bryan Perkins, and a team of chefs produce the meals, and plan the daily specials. The front of house team including Matt’s family and Jason Martin, Events & Restaurant Manager are busy ensuring guests are having a great time and are welcomed to the venue, whether it be for breakfast, lunch or an event.
The menus change at least once a year. The team spend hours with their heads together, discussing and taste testing to produce just the right balance of flavours and local produce. The result is delicious breakfasts, lunches, morning and afternoon teas to suit just about everyone’s taste and diet.

Our chefs make pretty much everything from scratch, from the stock and sauces to our decadent cakes. Starting with fresh ingredients and locally caught seafood, Matt and his team craft delicious meals ranging from old favourites like fish ‘n chips or a bacon & egg roll to Mexican, Asian and Middle Eastern inspired dishes. Yum!
A very clever and creative chef, Matt’s focus is on fresh, local ingredients and making people happy. He believes good food is not about trying too hard. By taking fresh, simple flavours and adding just a little flare, he and his team are confident that their creations will make you smile. That’s what it’s all about.
Jason joined the Surf Club team way back in 2010 and has become an indispensable part of the management team. While keeping the front of house running smoothly, Jason also coordinates conferences throughout the day and private events at night. He is a very busy man, yet still manages to stay on top of all the details!
